Youth charged over slashing incident at ITE campus

A 16-YEAR-OLD was charged yesterday with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means in a lunchtime brawl at Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College West.

Muhammad Zuhairie Adely Zulkifli used a bread knife with a 35cm blade to slash the victim, Ahmad Nurthaqif Sahed, at the campus in Choa Chu Kang on Tuesday at about 12.30pm. The bread knife, if used as a weapon of offence, is likely to cause death. Muhammad Zuhairie slashed the victim's left arm, fracturing his elbow bone.

The fracas was reportedly over a girl. Muhammad Zuhairie is believed to be a student at the school. Footage of the fight was recorded by students and circulated widely on social media.

Muhammad Zuhairie was offered bail of $15,000, but the bailors must be his parents. If he is out on bail, he faces a 10pm to 6am curfew.

He will appear in court again on April 8.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 15 years or life, and may be fined and caned.
