Yet another plane crashes
AN AIR Algerie flight has crashed en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers with 110 passengers on board, an Algerian aviation official said.
There were few clear indications of what happened to the aircraft at press time.
"I can confirm that it has crashed," said Burkino Faso Transport Minister Jean Bertin Ouedrago, without giving details.
Aviation sources said the aircraft was a McDonnell Douglas MD-83, leased from Spanish company Swiftair and carrying passengers of various nationalities.
Almost half of the passengers were French citizens, an airline official said. Its six-member crew were all Spanish.
The plane disappeared over Gao (in Mali), 500km from the Algerian border, Algerian radio reported. It had asked to change route because of a storm in the area.
