Wild ride ends in glory
An American athlete captured a gold medal - for Russia - at the Winter Olympics yesterday. Vic Wild, who switched allegiances in 2011 because he could not afford to train at an elite level in his native United States, won the men's snowboard parallel giant slalom title. There was more joy for Wild when his Siberian wife, Alena Zavarzina, captured the bronze in the women's competition. Wild is set to earn up to 300,000 euros (S$518,000) for his feat.
