Victory parade for Team S'pore on Saturday

A CELEBRATORY parade to mark the achievements of the country's Paralympians at the Rio Games will take place on Saturday.

The 13-strong contingent will be driven in a convoy of cars from ActiveSG Sengkang Sports Centre at 57, Anchorvale Road, before making a pit stop at the National Library along Victoria Street.

The convoy will then head to VivoCity.

The bulk of the team will return from Brazil this morning aboard SQ67, which is scheduled to arrive at Changi Airport Terminal 3 at about 5.35am.

They will emerge at Belt 42.

In addition, swimmer and double Paralympic gold-medallist Yip Pin Xiu has been rewarded with one million KrisFlyer miles by Singapore Airlines (SIA).

A Facebook post by the Singapore Disability Sports Council yesterday showed Yip being presented with the reward.

Yip, along with fellow swimmer Theresa Goh and the rest of Team Singapore's Paralympians, was also greeted with a banner, flowers, champagne and a cake by SIA staff during a stopover in Barcelona.

Team Singapore won three medals in Rio. Yip claimed two - in the 50m and 100m backstroke S2 - becoming the first Singaporean to win two titles at a single Paralympics.

Goh took the bronze in the 100m breaststroke SB4.

Both medallists were also seated in first class on their flight back.

Swimmer Joseph Schooling, who last month made history by becoming the first Singaporean to win an Olympic gold medal, also received similar treatment from SIA on his flight back to Singapore.
