S'pore man charged with sodomy in Johor
A MAN has been charged in Malaysia with sexual abuse - more than two years after he was convicted of a similar offence in Singapore.
Muhammad Mustaqim Juri, 37, allegedly committed "carnal intercourse against the order of nature" on a 22-year-old man at a carpark in Tampoi, a suburb in Johor Baru, on the afternoon of Dec 10.
The act is an offence under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between five and 20 years and caning.
Muhammad Mustaqim was also charged with criminal intimidation, with The Star reporting that he had gone to the victim's house in Taman Cempaka and threatened his mother that he would "get rid of her whole family".
If convicted of criminal intimidation, Muhammad Mustaqim faces a jail term of up to two years and/or a fine.
He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The judge set bail at RM40,000 (S$13,060) with one surety. Muhammad Mustaqim was also ordered to surrender his passport, with the case set for mention on Jan 17.
In 2013, Muhammad Mustaqim was sentenced to four years and three months in jail and three strokes of the cane after he was found guilty by a Singapore court of subjecting a 13-year-old boy to six hours of sexual abuse on Sept 20, 2011.
The jail term was backdated to Sept 22, 2011, when he was first placed in remand.
The offences, which were committed in his Jurong flat, came about after the boy's mother had complained that her son was "soft and behaved in an effeminate manner", which made people tease him.
Muhammad Mustaqim then offered to have a "man-to-man talk" with him "to help him become a better person" but instead, took him into the bathroom where he kissed, caressed and performed oral and anal sex on the boy.
Muhammad Mustaqim was referred to as a "celebrity" chef in some quarters after he emerged runner-up in the 2007 local Malay TV show Chef Selebriti.
It was also reported in 2013 that he was married with three children.
According to the New Straits Times, he currently works as a beauty consultant and part-time chef.
