SIA plane veers off Myanmar runway in rain
A SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) plane skidded off the runway as it was touching down amid heavy rain at Myanmar's Yangon International Airport, but no injuries were reported, the carrier said yesterday.
Flight SQ998, which makes a daily trip to Myanmar, was carrying 265 passengers and crew, including Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin.
"It was the hardest landing I've ever experienced," Mr Tan said in a Facebook post. "Which is why we should follow instructions and be properly strapped in. The crew was very professional and reassuring."
He was here for a meeting of Asean labour ministers.
The Airbus A330 "encountered heavy rain and veered slightly off the runway on landing" at 10.05am Yangon time on Wednesday, before it was steered safely back, the airline said.
