NTUC: About 270 firms have embraced progressive wage model
NEARLY 270 unionised companies across 12 clusters have implemented wage ladders and career progression plans so far, the labour movement said yesterday.
This is up from the 20 which were on board when the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) introduced the progressive wage model - which links pay increases to training - in 2012, said NTUC assistant secretary-general Cham Hui Fong.
"The earlier you start on this journey, the stronger your competitive edge over others," she said at a seminar attended by some 600 employers and unionists.
The seminar at the Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability focused on how the model can be applied to workers at all levels, across all industries and sectors.
Nine companies including Singapore Airlines, The American Club and Eighteen Chefs gave presentations on their use of the model to improve workers' skills, pay and productivity, as well as to attract and retain staff.
NTUC estimates that more than 150,000 workers - ranging from low-wage workers to professionals, managers and executives - have benefited from the model.
