New way to check home prices online

HAVE you ever wondered how much your home is worth, or how much a neighbour sold or rented his flat for? You can now find out easily on a free online feature called My Property Tracker.

Aimed at home owners and renters, the feature - available for desktop computers, and on tablet and smartphone browsers - was launched yesterday by software company StreetSine Technology Group on its portal, SRX Property. Singapore Press Holdings has a 60 per cent stake in CoSine Holdings, StreetSine's holding company.

My Property Tracker provides free property valuation information on home owners' Housing Board flats and private homes, such as condominiums and landed residential properties.

Subscribers to the feature will receive monthly text message updates on the market value and rental value of their homes, along with a personalised webpage with a unique URL tied to their postal codes and mobile phone numbers. More frequent updates are also available.

My Property Tracker has three sections.

The first, Home Facts and Figures, provides information such as a home's sale value and rental value, as well as the sales and rental trends for a user's property.

The second section, Neighbourhood Listings, shows what properties are being put up for sale or rent near a user's home, such as listings within the user's HDB block. The information is obtained from sources such as the ST Property website and SRX Property.

The last section, Neighbourhood Transactions, provides a monthly update of the homes that were sold or rented in a user's neighbourhood. The original listing prices are often indicated along with the sale prices.

The statistics are computed from data provided by more than 30 sources, including government bodies such as the Urban Redevelopment Authority, and Building and Construction Authority, as well as property agencies such as PropNex and ERA Realty.

Said Sam Baker, chief executive of SRX Property: "Our goal is for every household in Singapore to receive monthly updates on the market value and rent of their homes."

He added that this would make Singapore one of the most "transparent property (markets) in the world".

To subscribe to My Property Tracker, sign up on with your mobile phone number, property type, postal code and unit number. A mobile number can be linked to only one house.
