Man jailed for hurting women after losing 4D

ANGRY about not striking the lottery, a man decided to vent his anger by striking a mother and daughter - who simply had the bad luck to be walking near him.

Yesterday, Gavin Khoo Theam Min, 37, who is unemployed, was jailed for six weeks after admitting to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt.

The court heard that he left his home in West Coast Drive and went to the FairPrice supermarket at Block 451 Clementi Avenue 3 on Aug 4 to buy soft drinks.

After leaving the supermarket, he became incensed when he found out that he had not won the previous day's 4D lottery.

He saw Ho Sok Kan, 58, a telemarketer, and her daughter, Jessie Li Li Wen, 22, a student, walking nearby and decided to take it out on them.

He punched the older woman once on her left temple. She fell and landed on her buttocks.

    Khoo then walked away.

Ms Li gave chase and confronted him near Block 449. He then punched her on the left eye twice.

Passers-by helped to detain him while Madam Ho called the police.

Both women sought medical treatment for their injuries at a polyclinic the next day.

He could have been jailed for up to two years, fined up to $5,000 on each charge or received both a jail sentence and fine.
