Man climbs into flat, robs woman and grandma

A MAN climbed up to the second floor of a shophouse in Eunos on Sunday and threatened a woman at knifepoint before beating her up and escaping with two bags containing cash, credit cards and a mobile phone.

The incident happened at 5.39am at a unit in Block 8, Eunos Crescent, where 76-year-old Madam Fu lived with granddaughter Wu Ziling, 27, Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reported yesterday.

The young man entered through Ms Wu's bedroom window.

Madam Fu told Wanbao that the unit was very old and that there were no grilles on the window, which had a loose lock.

Ms Wu woke up with a shock and the man brandished a knife and told her not to shout.

According to a report in Shin Min Daily News yesterday, she tried to stop him.

He grabbed her by the neck and punched her.

He then grabbed the women's handbags and is believed to have escaped by jumping out of the kitchen window.

Ms Wu contacted her boyfriend who called the police.

Madam Fu, who has a heart condition, woke up only after the police arrived.

Among the losses were $400 to $500 in cash, medicines and Ms Wu's mobile phone and credit cards, said Madam Fu.

She added that her granddaughter was sent to Changi General Hospital, where a doctor said she had a concussion and had to remain under observation.

Madam Fu had planned to move from the rental unit in two weeks to live with her son.

She told Wanbao that she had raised her granddaughter for more than 20 years, as the latter's parents were "not around".

Ms Wu is likely to move to a church member's place for the time being, as she is afraid to return to the Eunos flat.

The police told My Paper yesterday that a 28-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting with investigations.
