Man arrested for Yishun cat abuse cases

A 40-YEAR-OLD man, believed to be involved in a series of cat abuses cases in Yishun since September, has been arrested by the police.

He will be charged in court by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) today for committing offences of animal cruelty, the AVA and police said in a joint statement released last evening.

The agencies said that they have received several reports of cats found injured or dead in Yishun over the past three months. AVA conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, with the assistance by officers from the Ang Mo Kio Division, before establishing the man's identity.

He was then arrested on Sunday along Yishun Ring Road. If found guilty, he could be jailed up to 18 months, fined up to $15,000 or both.

The AVA said it will investigate all public feedback on animal cruelty and take enforcement actions against those who have committed acts of animal cruelty.

Members of the public with any information on animal cruelty cases, such as photographs, video evidence or witnesses, can contact AVA at 1800-476-1600.
