Man arrested for climbing Zouk roof
POLICE have arrested a 23-year-old man for criminal trespass after he allegedly climbed on the roof of nightclub Zouk early yesterday morning.
An eyewitness, who did not want to be named, told The Straits Times the man had appeared to be drunk.
In response to queries, a police spokesman said they were alerted to the incident at 17 Jiak Kim Street at around 3.46am.
A Zouk patron, Twitter user Aldof-Tony, tweeted about the incident at around 4am.
He claimed that he saw the man climbing up on top of the roof and that an ambulance and firemen were at the scene.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it deployed a fire engine, a red rhino, three support vehicles and an ambulance in response to the incident.
A lifepak, an inflatable safety cushion used in emergencies, was deployed but it was not needed.
Police investigations are ongoing.
The iconic homegrown nightclub first opened at its Jiak Kim Street premises in 1991.
It is due to relocate to Clarke Quay at the end of the year.
