Mahathir under probe over calls for Najib to quit
FORMER Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad is being investigated over his calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Police has started several investigations after reports were made against Dr Mahathir, Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi said in a written reply to a parliamentary question published yesterday. They are being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code, he added.
One case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for review after the investigation is completed, and another has been referred to the attorney-general, Mr Zahid said.
In his question, Member of Parliament Tan Kok Wai from the opposition Democratic Action Party had asked what actions the authorities were taking against Dr Mahathir, who has been aggressively pressuring Mr Najib to resign.
He has been vocal in his criticism of Mr Najib over a multitude of issues including 1Malaysia Development Berhad, the worsening economy, accusations of corruption and the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.
