LKY misses CNY dinner
FORMER prime minister Lee Kuan Yew missed the annual Chinese New Year dinner in his Tanjong Pagar constituency last night, as he has been hospitalised with an infection.
Mr Lee has been staying at Singapore General Hospital since Sunday. He has contracted a fever and a bad cough caused by the infection.
The 90-year-old is on antibiotics and is recovering.
A press statement said Mr Lee was advised by doctors to avoid public appearances.
"He would like to wish all Tanjong Pagar residents, as well as Singaporeans, a Happy Chinese New Year," the statement added.
Mr Lee is a usual fixture at the annual dinner, and would usually use the opportunity to make a keynote speech. He missed last year's event for the first time, also for health reasons.
