Haze: PSI to hit 'very unhealthy' range

AIR quality could worsen today and hit very unhealthy levels.

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) is set to be between the high end of the unhealthy range (101 to 200) and the mid-section of the very unhealthy range (201 to 300), the National Environment Agency (NEA) said at 5pm yesterday.

But air quality could deteriorate to the high end of the very unhealthy range if denser haze is blown in, said NEA.

Yesterday, the 24-hour PSI was mostly in the unhealthy range, breaching the low-end of the very unhealthy range a few times in some parts of Singapore.

The hazy conditions have also resulted in tomorrow's Pedestrian Night at Orchard Road to be cancelled.

In a statement yesterday, a spokesman for the event said that it will be cancelled "out of consideration for the health and safety of our staff, our visitors and all street performers".

The spokesman also advised visitors to Orchard Road to stay indoors as much as possible and take necessary precautions.

The in-mall Pedestrian Night promotions and shopping deals will still be on offer.
