Girl, 17, dies after freak accident in carpark
A 17-YEAR-OLD girl was flung out of a van in a freak accident on Sunday morning.
The incident happened around 6am at a carpark off Changi Beach Park and Nicoll Drive, according to Chinese newspapers Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao.
The girl, who the newspapers identified as Fatin, had climbed into the back of a friend's van - along with her sister and another friend - after a late-night barbecue to grab breakfast.
When the 21-year-old male driver made a sharp turn at the carpark, the door swung open and Fatin fell out. It is suspected that the door was not closed properly.
The ITE Simei student suffered severe injuries to the back of her head. She fell into a coma and died later on Sunday.
The driver, who is said to have just obtained his licence, is assisting police with investigations.
Fatin's 44-year-old father, who works as a prisons officer, told the newspapers that she was a happy and active person, and especially loved playing football and running.
He was told the bad news while at work, and rushed to the hospital. Upon hearing she had died, "my mind became a blank. I couldn't hear anything else. I couldn't believe my daughter left me", he said.
