Fund set up for those affected by Sabah quake

A FUND has been set up for the families of victims who lost their lives, as well as those whose livelihoods were affected, in the wake of the earthquake that hit Sabah.

This was in response to requests from the public, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Temasek Foundation in a joint statement yesterday.

The June 5 tragedy claimed the lives of 10 people from Singapore: seven pupils and two teachers from Tanjong Katong Primary School, and the adventure guide who accompanied them on their trip to Mount Kinabalu.

MOE will be in charge of collecting donations, which will be administered by Temasek Foundation. A committee comprising representatives appointed by both organisations is tasked with overseeing the manner in which the donations are received and allocated.

Members of the public can make contributions to the following beneficiaries: the families of Tanjong Katong Primary teachers Mohammad Ghazi Mohamed and Terrence Loo Jian Ling, the family of adventure instructor Muhammad Daanish Amran, and the Mountain Torq trainers and Sabah mountain guides.

They can do so via cheque from now till July 25. All cheques should be made payable to the "Sabah Earthquake Fund" and sent to the following address:
