Free bus and MRT rides on National Day

SBS Transit will be offering free travel on its bus and train services on National Day this Sunday to mark SG50.

This will extend to non-basic services such as the Parks, Chinatown Direct and Night Owl bus services, SBS Transit said yesterday.

Commuters will not have to tap their fare cards when they board buses that day. Fare gates at all its train stations will also be left open to grant free access throughout the day.

SBS Transit said it will also extend the operating hours of its train and selected bus services on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Train services on the North East Line and Downtown Line as well as on the Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems will be extended by about half an hour.

It will also extend the last bus timings of 26 bus services.

SMRT said on Saturday that it will also offer free travel on its train and bus services on National Day. Fare gates will be open and passengers will not have to tap in or out throughout operating hours on Sunday.

SMRT's rail network includes services on the North-South and East-West lines, Circle Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT.

Those taking SMRT trunk and feeder buses, as well as the company's Night Rider services, will also be able to travel free of charge.
