Fires at HDB block, coffee shop, field put out
THREE fires were put out across Singapore yesterday, with no injuries reported.
The first involved discarded items by a seventh-floor Housing Board unit at Block 18 Eunos Crescent around 8.30am.
It was doused by residents using buckets of water before firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived.
SCDF officers next responded to a fire at a coffee shop at Block 851, Jurong West Street 81 at around 10.40am. They took 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which reportedly originated from cooking equipment.
Twenty coffee-shop patrons fled from the scene while 10 residents from the block's upper floors were evacuated by the SCDF and the police as a precaution.
In the last incident, a vegetation fire took place in an open field beside Block 256, Sumang Walk in Punggol at around 1.15pm.
SCDF said the flames engulfed an area measuring about 30m by 30m.
