    IN OUR story "Concerns over handling of Govt grants" (July 18), we said: "Significant lapses in procurement this year included the National Library Board's (NLB's) purchase of $3.76 million of library materials directly from a vendor, without calling for a competitive tender."

    The NLB has clarified that its panel of vendors was appointed through an open tender and they can freely recommend titles to NLB for consideration. The incidents cited by the Auditor-General's Office were for purchases made from the vendors on the panel.
