Beijing developing anti-suicide app to fight depression
BEIJING is developing an app for mobile devices that can help people with depression, the Beijing News reports.
The app is part of Beijing's effort to raise awareness of depression and prevent suicide.
It will provide treatment methods, online inquiries and appointments, psychological interventions and prognosis.
It features tests that can help to determine if an app user is depressed. It will also monitor and display physical signs through cardiograms and electroencephalograms.
The app was initiated at the psychological research and intervention centre at Beijing's Huilongguan Hospital. It is expected to be ready within three years.
About 287,000 Chinese commit suicide each year, and another two million attempt it, according to China's health authorities.
