Amused netizens eat up Bai Ting case
NETIZENS were tickled pink yesterday by an unusual court case in which a man was charged with biting a policeman.
The man's name? Bai Ting.
Cue a flurry of jokes as various bloggers picked up the story and posted it on social media.
Bai, 28, hails from China. He was charged on Tuesday with biting the right forearm of Sergeant Ng Wen Chi at the lockup of Bedok Police Division Headquarters on Sunday night.
He was put there after he was found drunk in Lorong 27A, Geylang, for which he also faces a charge.
The story quickly spread yesterday, with bloggers Mr Brown and Mr Miyagi writing about it on their Facebook pages.
Several readers started riffing on his name. "Good thing his brother, Fai Ting, wasn't there!" said Facebook user Khazmin Juma'in.
Another user called William Goh said: "Can you imagine what his friend, Yi Ting, would have done instead?"
But the penalties Bai faces are no laughing matter - he could be jailed up to seven years, caned and fined for hurting a police officer. He also faces a maximum fine of $1,000 and one month's jail for being drunk and incapable of taking care of himself in a public place.
