AirAsia confirms bomb hoax for Thai flight
AIRASIA has confirmed that a bomb threat was made against one of its planes travelling from Bangkok to Phuket on Tuesday.
"We confirm there was a bomb threat against AirAsia Flight FD3003 on Aug 26 as reported, and we have fully cooperated with the Airport Authority of Thailand (AoT), which handled the case," AirAsia said in a statement to The Star Online yesterday.
The flight landed safely at the Phuket International Airport (HKT) at 12.15pm on Tuesday.
The AoT said that HKT received the bomb threat via phone, after the plane departed from Don Muang Airport in Bangkok. The Airbus A320-200 had 167 passengers, four crew members and two pilots on board.
The luggage on the plane was inspected, but the inspection did not turn up any suspicious objects as detailed in the threat.
"Initial checks have led the authorities to believe the bomb threat was intended to stir confusion and harass travellers," said the AoT.
"The AoT has launched a full investigation into the matter."
