650 emissions 'cheating' VW diesel vehicles in Singapore

VOLKSWAGEN Singapore has declared that about 650 Volkswagen diesel vehicles registered here are affected by the global emissions scandal.

These vehicles were fitted with the Type EA 189 EU5 diesel engine and the defeat device.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) in a statement yesterday said it takes a serious view of any misrepresentation by Volkswagen Group.

It added that approvals for all affected Volkswagen diesel vehicle models have been suspended and no new registrations will be allowed.

The suspension will be in place until Volkswagen has completed rectification of all affected vehicles, said NEA.

Volkswagen confessed last month that millions of vehicles worldwide were fitted with cheating software to beat emission tests, leading to chief executive Martin Winterkorn's swift resignation.

There are more than 22,000 Volkswagen cars in Singapore.
