5kg potted plant damages car after 9-storey fall
A POTTED plant weighing about 5kg plunged nine storeys and smashed through the windscreen of a car, Shin Min Daily News reported yesterday.
Ms Wang, 42, told Shin Min that a neighbour informed her about the damage to her car at around 3pm on Sunday. Her Toyota was parked at the carpark of Block 871 in Yishun Street 81 when the plant fell on it.
The impact created a hole in the centre of the windscreen, caused the rear-view mirror to fall off and damaged the dashboard. There was soil all over her car.
"I rushed downstairs to check on my car. We think that someone threw the plant, which belongs to one of my neighbours, and it happened to hit my car," she said.
The owner of the plant, a 78-year-old woman surnamed Lin, said she "felt like crying" when she saw that her curry leaf plant was smashed. She had been cultivating it for three years, she said.
Ms Wang's husband, surnamed Hu, estimated the repairs could cost him more than $3,000. After he and his family cleaned up the car, they put the plant in a bag and returned it to Ms Lin.
Police have classified the incident as a rash act, and are investigating.
