Kitty-themed HTC phone takes off with Eva Airways
FANS of Hello Kitty now have a new reason to fly with Eva Airways.
Taiwan's second-largest airline and compatriot HTC have unveiled a smartphone featuring the popular Japanese cartoon character.
The limited-edition HTC Butterfly S smartphone has a specially designed Hello Kitty logo on its back casing and nine built-in wallpapers featuring the feline, according to Focus Taiwan News Channel.
The smartphone is equipped with a 3,200mAh battery, HTC BounSound Dual frontal stereo speakers, HTC Zoe and HTC BlinkFeed Live home screen, according to Eva Airways' Sky Shop. The phone also has a quad-core CPU, 5-inch high-definition LCD display and HTC UltraPixel Camera.
The initial shipment of the phone will be limited to 3,000 units.
The device went on sale yesterday on all Eva routes, at a price of NT$22,900 (S$981). It is also available at Chunghwa Telecom stores in Taiwan.
Eva Airways has been operating Hello Kitty-themed flights since October 2011, primarily on routes between Taiwan and Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong, said Focus Taiwan News Channel.
The airline is already in talks with HTC to come up with the next model of the limited-edition phone, likely to be released in the coming months, said the carrier's chairman, Mr Chang Kuo-wei.
"We expect the inventory of the first Hello Kitty phone to be cleared out shortly after its launch," Focus Taiwan News Channel reported, quoting Mr Chang at the launch of the limited-edition Butterfly S.
