WATSON BAGS RIVIERA TITLE BY ONE SHOT
AMERICAN Bubba Watson clinched the Northern Trust Open on Sunday for a second time in three years, sealing victory by one shot after a wildly fluctuating final round at sunny Riviera.
A stroke in front overnight, the American left-hander twice fell two off the pace as first Adam Scott and then Jason Kokrak broke clear. But he regained control of the tournament with two birdies in the last three holes.
CUEVAS DEFEATS PELLA AT RIO AFTER OUSTING NADAL
URUGUAY'S Pablo Cuevas, coming off an upset win over Rafael Nadal, clinched his fourth career ATP title on Sunday, defeating Argentina's Guido Pella 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 in the Rio Open final.
The US$303,000 (S$424,800) top prize was the biggest single payday of Cuevas' career, coming after his semi-final shocker over Nadal.
Cuevas, ranked 45th but set to jump to 27th, missed two seasons from 2011 to 2013 due to injury but has come back to win titles at the 2014 Swedish and Croatian opens and last year's Brazil Open at Sao Paulo.
DAVIS SCORES RECORD 59 POINTS IN PELICANS WIN
ANTHONY Davis scored a career-high 59 points and grabbed 20 rebounds on Sunday in one of the NBA's most epic performances, powering the New Orleans Pelicans over hosts Detroit 111-106.
On a day when LeBron James powered the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 115-92 rout of Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder, Davis stole the show with an effort for the ages.
The 22-year-old forward scored eight points in the first quarter, 18 in the second, 14 more in the third and 19 in the fourth to produce the most points by any NBA player in a game this season.
