THE Singapore women's table tennis team's hopes of clinching a medal at the World Team Table Tennis Championships in Kuala Lumpur received a boost when they beat third seeds Netherlands 3-2 yesterday.
It was the Republic's final group game, and ensured they topped Group C ahead of the Dutch.
Group winners get a bye into the quarter-finals while the second- and third-placed teams go to the round of 16.

VENUS ENDS BOYCOTT OF INDIAN WELLS EVENT
VENUS Williams will end her 15-year no-show at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells next week.
The 35-year-old former world No. 1 has not played the prestigious Californian event since 2001 when she and sister Serena were booed by sections of the crowd.
Venus said she had been prompted to return after seeing the 57-second standing ovation her sister received after returning last year.
