Kenya stun Fiji to win 1st Sevens Series title
A SLICE of Kenyan sporting history was made last night as the East Africa nation captured their first HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series crown.
In a stunning upset, they beat reigning Sevens Series champions Fiji 30-7 at the National Stadium.
This was only the third time Kenya had advanced to the Cup final of a leg of the Sevens Series.
They lost to England in the 2013 Wellington Sevens final held in New Zealand and to South Africa in the 2009 Adelaide Sevens tournament.
In yesterday's other finals, Samoa defeated New Zealand 26-21 to claim the Shield trophy. In the Bowl final, Scotland beat the United States 14-10 while Russia recorded a 24-7 victory over Wales in the Shield final.
The Singapore Sevens was last held in 2006 and drew daily crowds of about 16,000.
This year's edition, which is the eighth stop of the prestigious 16-nation rugby sevens tournament, welcomed more than 23,000 fans on each day of the weekend.
