Dan Excel wins SIA Cup
LAST year's runner-up, Dan Excel, won the $3 million Singapore Airlines International Cup (SIA Cup) yesterday at the Singapore Turf Club.
The six-year-old gelding, with Tommy Berry astride, started from a favourable Barrier 1 and rode close to the rail throughout, before bursting to victory in the final furlong at Kranji.
Dan Excel's victory meant Australian John Moore is the first trainer in the SIA Cup's 14-year history to win the 2,000m race back to back.
Moore also won with Military Attack last year.
Meanwhile, defending champion and pre-race favourite Lucky Nine retained its title in the $1 million KrisFlyer International Sprint.
The seven-year-old gelding became the first horse in eight editions of the race to win it back to back.
