Bonus on top of RM1 million for M'sian duo

ABDUL Latif Romly and Ziyad Zolkefli will get an extra RM20,000 (S$6,620) as bonus for breaking world records in their events at the Rio Paralympics.

This adds to the RM1 million they will get for their golden feats at the Paralympics under the National Sports Council (NSC) incentive scheme.

Ziyad improved on the world record twice on his way to winning the men's F20 (intellectual disability) shot putt event on Saturday.

Mohd Ridzuan Mohd Puzi had earlier claimed the nation's first-ever Paralympic gold medal in the men's T36 (cerebral palsy) 100m final - and with a new meet record as well.

On Sunday, it was Abdul Latif's turn to complete the extraordinary three-gold haul for Malaysia in track and field.

The 19-year-old broke the world record three times on his way to winning the men's T20 (intellectual disability) long jump final.

For winning gold, the trio will each also get a RM5,000 lifetime monthly allowance.

The para-athletes enjoy the same rewards as their able-bodied counterparts under the revised NSC incentive scheme.
