Alleged assault during local FA Cup match

THE football captain of Singapore Armed Forces Sports Association (Safsa) was allegedly attacked after a brawl broke out at a recent Football Association Cup 2016 (National Football League & Island Wide League Stage) match.

According to a Facebook post dated yesterday, Syafiq Siraj, who was a spectator, claimed he was assaulted

    by the opposing team.

This post was later taken down since early yesterday afternoon.

He shared a video that shows a big group of men chasing and surrounding someone (Syafiq claims

this is him), which a bystander had recorded.

The dispute reportedly arose after one of the players from the opposing team was given a red card for hitting Syafiq's teammate.

Syafiq wrote: "After the opponent team player named Masnashzreen Masturi was red carded for punching my teammate Fuad Ramli in the face, he suddenly chased me and his teammates... decided to chase me as well."

Recounting the assault, he added: "I was on the floor. They were beating

    me on the floor.

    "My mother came

and shielded me and my teammate Faris Azienuddin shielded me also from the punches and kicks. My mother and I were hurt while in the process."

Both Syafiq and his mother were allegedly sent to hospital and have made

    a police report.
