Vital to shape good posture from young
IT HAS been said that you can judge a person by his posture.
But your posture not only influences how others perceive you, it also influences how you see yourself.
Self-confidence has a lot to do with good posture.
An example of this is shown in a study published in 1998 by Canadian and American researchers. In it, subjects placed temporarily in a slumped or depressed position later displayed a lack of drive when ordered to perform tasks.
It also found that subjects who were placed in a hunched position reported greater mental stress than subjects who were placed in a relaxed position.
In another study, published in the European Journal Of Social Psychology in 2009, participants were each assigned words that described different emotional states. Those with words associated with positive feelings tended to stand more upright than those with words associated with negative ones.
The studies point to this: Posture is important.
But postures are like habits. They must be cultivated from young, because, once formed, they can be hard to change.
That is why some people use special desks that help to correct posture.
If you have children, you may want to consider the Kinder Fun range of desks and chairs. The workstations not only help correct posture, but they are also adjustable, so that your children can continue using them as they grow.
The workstations are made with the German Stabilus air-pressure system, and it takes just two seconds to adjust.
They are made with a high-pressure laminate based on American technology that is durable and easy to maintain.
You can also try a Lego or Strategy Pro International (SPI) school bag. They are ergonomically designed and made with lightweight materials to minimise the pressure on a child's back. They also have fluorescent material to reflect light and enhance the child's visiblity to traffic.
You can find these products at Strategy Pro International's shops at #03-50B in Mandarin Hotel and Shopping Arcade at 333 Orchard Road, and #05-15 in Centrepoint Shopping Centre at 176 Orchard Road.
A desk starts from $599, while a chair starts from $399. A Lego bag starts from $149, and an SPI bag starts from $139.
