Follow in K-drama stars' footsteps
KEEN on the great outdoors, as well as dreamy scenery straight out of a romantic drama series?
Look no farther than the island backdrops for popular television serials and picturesque running routes in South Korea, with travel options available from Dynasty Travel.
Hallyu fans will be familiar with Nami Island, where 2002's hit Winter Sonata TV series was filmed.
The island's redwood-lined path is famed for scenes in which the show's star-struck lovers - played by Bae Yong Joon and Choi Ji Woo - strolled hand in hand.
Another location to look out for is Jeju Island, the setting for many hit K-dramas, such as Jewel In The Palace and Secret Garden. The island's Seongeup-ri area is where Jewel In The Palace's protagonist - played by Lee Young Ae - is exiled and begins her life as a physician.
Dynasty Travel's tour offerings to the islands also include a choice of two scenic marathons.
There's the 42km Chosunilbo Chuncheon Marathon on Oct 26 and the Jeju International Mandarin Marathon on Nov 16. There are shorter options available for those who aren't quite up for the full runs: A 10km route for the former, and 5km, 10km and 21km runs for the latter.
Alicia Seah, marketing communications director at Dynasty Travel, said that South Korea is popular because of K-pop, K-dramas, electronic goods as well as the food.
"But we are now promoting it for a different reason - for travellers to race in marathons and enjoy a memorable holiday," she said.
Prices for tour packages start from $1,238 a person, with a waiver on the marathons' registration fee.
There's also a gala dinner with a lucky draw included in the tour packages. The winner will get Asiana Airlines tickets to any of the airline's destinations.
