CHER SET TO APPEAR IN THE VOICE SEASON FINALE
CHER will appear in the season finale of singing-competition series The Voice on Tuesday, making her first live TV performance in more than 10 years, NBC said on Monday.
The 67-year-old singer and actress, who has won an Oscar as well as Grammy and Emmy awards, will perform Woman's World, a new single from her album of the same name which is to be released in September, her first album in 12 years.
LOW-BUDGET THE PURGE TOPS U.S. BOX OFFICE WITH $43m
LOW-BUDGET horror film The Purge jumped to the top of the North American box office in its opening weekend with US$34.1 million (S$43 million) in ticket sales, figures showed on Monday.
With a budget of only US$3 million, the Universal feature stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey as parents fighting off a home invasion during a night when all crime is legal in a near-future America.
It raced straight into the lead ahead of Fast & Furious 6, the action sequel starring Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez that scored US$19.6 million for a total of US$203 million over three weeks in cinemas.
In third place came crime thriller Now You See Me, starring Mark Ruffalo, in which a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and an Interpol detective hunt down a team of illusionists performing bank heists during their shows, with US$19 million.
BOYFRIEND FACES COURT OVER BOLLYWOOD STAR'S SUICIDE
THE Indian boyfriend of the late Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was to appear in a Mumbai court yesterday, on suspicion of abetting her suicide after her family found a letter in her room.
Suraj Pancholi, a 22-year-old aspiring actor, was detained on Monday, a week after his girlfriend's body was discovered in her home by her parents.
"He was arrested for abetment to commit suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code," Additional Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre-Patil told AFP.
The 25-year-old Khan, who made her debut starring opposite acting legend Amitabh Bachchan, was found dead in an apparent suicide last Monday.
