Jackie Chan helps re-house China quake victims

ACTION superstar Jackie Chan is reportedly helping to re-house victims of the Ya'an earthquake in China's Sichuan province, and supplying essential daily items to the needy.

The 59-year-old actor, who donated 3 million yuan (S$612,000) through his Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, was shooting a public-welfare advertisement for Ya'an Meng Ding Mountain Tea Leaves last week, in support of the earthquake-struck area.

The 6.6-magnitude earthquake on April 20 left 196 people dead and injured more than 11,000.

According to reports, his donation will go to constructing new houses for those in need.

Chan wrote in a post on his website that the money will be used to purchase materials designed to withstand earthquakes.

"To the elderly people living in the Ya'an disaster area, I'd like you all to know that I specially ordered some modern-style houses that are designed to withstand earthquakes...

"Within the next two months, the new houses will be ready."
