    Hired! And Filipino wins Apprentice

THE chief executive of budget airline AirAsia, Mr Tony Fernandes, has picked Filipino Jonathan Yabut as the winner of reality-TV show The Apprentice Asia.

The 27-year-old senior product manager beat 11 other contestants from across Asia in this spin-off of American show The Apprentice.

The contestants had to go through leadership tests, before the board - made up of advisers Kathleen Tan and Mark Lankester, and aviation tycoon Fernandes - decided who to "fire" from the show.

In the final episode, which aired on AXN on Wednesday night, Mr Yabut and Singaporean lawyer Andrea Loh, 24, were tasked to organise a black-tie fund-raiser for AirAsia Foundation.

Mr Yabut will be starting his career as chief of staff at AirAsia in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 15.

The Apprentice Asia will re-run from Mondays to Thurdays at 10.55pm on AXN (StarHub TV Ch 511) starting Aug 19.
