Dick Lee named Steinway Artist
IT'S been a busy year for home-grown singer-songwriter Dick Lee. He is involved in three musicals and finishing some paintings for an art exhibition at the end of the year.
Recently, he was named a Steinway Artist.
The Steinway Artist programme appoints musicians who choose to use Steinway pianos exclusively.
Lee, 57, is the first Asian Steinway Artist in the pop/contemporary genre and will be joining the likes of jazz legends Diana Krall and Harry Connick Jr.
Surprisingly enough, Lee was not "aware of Steinway Artists until recently".
The announcement thus came as a great honour and surprise for him.
He told My Paper: "I am totally flabbergasted and honoured! It's certainly one of the proudest moments in my life."
To celebrate, he will be holding a solo piano concert, titled An Evening with Dick Lee, on Monday at the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT).
The writer of Home and Rasa Sayang will be showcasing songs from the early part of his career.
All profits will go to SRT.
An Evening with Dick Lee will be held on Monday, 8pm, at the DBS Arts Centre, home of Singapore Repertory Theatre. Tickets start at $60 and are available from Sistic at www.sistic.com.sg
