DESIGNED to fit better and last longer, New York luxury eyewear brand Lumete has become a must-have item among fashion icons.

Celebrities seen donning this range of quirky eyewear include burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese, actress Chloe Sevigny and model Candice Swanepoel.

Fashion designer Tia Giovanni will feature the sunglasses at the New York Fashion Week this month.

Now, this whimsical line of sunglasses is available here and will be sold exclusively at multi-label store Inhabit.

Established in 2010 and headed by Colombian creative director Clara Herrara, Lumete designs eyewear that are not only durable and scratch-resistant, but also provide adequate protection of up to UV400 for the eyes.

The frames are hand-sculpted in zyl acetate, a non-petroleum-based hypoallergenic material which is environmentally friendly and long-lasting. On top of that, they are hard-coated for extra scratch-resistance.

Lumete director Harold Smith said that the collection was designed "for women aged 35 to 55 who want something confident and unique".

He added that Ms Herrara's designs come from an eclectic mix of academic and aesthetic influences, which range from 17th-century alchemy to art-noveau decorative arts.

Lumete is available at Inhabit, Mandarin Gallery, #02-16. Prices range from $325 to $400. Inhabit will be holding a Lumete trunk show on Oct 8.
