PUB, LTA changing drain grating for safer cycling

PUB, the national water agency, thanks Mr Reuben Cheang for his letter, "Some ideas to make cycling to work safer" (My Paper, April 11).

Where appropriate, PUB will cover up the open drains during drainage improvement projects. The covered drains will double as footpaths, which can be extended where there is space and if required.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has adopted a new design for the drop inlet chambers (DICs) along roads, where the gratings of the DICs on the roads run perpendicular rather than parallel to the traffic.

PUB has been working closely with LTA to progressively implement this new design for the DICs.

Mr Cheang and members of the public are welcome to provide feedback on drainage matters by contacting PUB's 24-hour call centre on 1800-284-6600.
