Kudos to teacher over organ donation
I REFER to the article "Caring teacher gives others new lease of life" (My Paper, May 7).
On behalf of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), I wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the family of the late Laura Lau.
Our hearts are filled with great sadness after reading about her demise. However, I wish to express our gratitude and respect to the late Ms Lau and her husband, Eric Koh, for giving others renewed life and hope through her donated organs.
I hope the knowledge that her final deed of compassion and kindness will live on in others and will alleviate the deep sense of loss for her family members.
Her gift was indeed a manifestation of the sacrifices she made as a caring mother, wife and teacher, as well as her selfless spirit of giving to help those in need.
I hope that her wonderful act of kindness will inspire others to come forward to donate their organs.
NKF is committed to promoting kidney transplantation as it offers the best solution for those afflicted with kidney failure to lead a better quality of life, with fewer restrictions on time and diet.
At the same time, we remain steadfast in providing quality and affordable dialysis to needy kidney-failure patients who are unable to have a transplant.
More importantly, we will do more to encourage healthy lifestyles: eating healthier, exercising regularly and going for appropriate health screening, as early detection and prevention will go a long way in reducing and retarding the progress of kidney disease.
We hope that through such efforts as many people as possible will not need to go through the pain, suffering and limiting effects of kidney failure.
