Have tuk tuks as taxis, to save on space
SINGAPORE is a very small island. Most dwellings have been downsized, to accommodate more.
With regard to the usage of roads here, I have noticed that most of the time, big taxis (which have approximately 9 sq m of footprint space) carry only one passenger, with no luggage in the boot.
This is a waste of resources.
Could the authorities consider introducing, say, four-stroke, air-conditioned three-wheeled tuk tuks - commonly used in India, Thailand and the Philippines - which take up half the space of a conventional taxi, besides being more fuel-efficient?
Such an alternative mode of transport will free up plenty of road space, and make more efficient use of our precious space.
