    S'pore Ducktours incident-free

A FIRM behind duck tours here has reassured visitors that it has safety measures in place to prevent its vessels - which are able to travel on land and sea - from waddling into trouble.

Singapore Ducktours was responding to media queries about an incident in London last Sunday, when a similar vessel caught fire on the river Thames.

Many of the 28 passengers jumped into the river to escape the flames and had to be rescued by police. River tours by London Duck Boat Tours have been halted pending the results of an investigation.

The company here owns five vessels which take tourists on tours around attractions, such as the Civic District, before launching into the Marina Bay. The vessels used here are former Vietnamese warcraft that were rebuilt by a Singapore contractor.

Since 2002, Singapore Ducktours has ferried more than two million passengers and made more than 80,000 trips without any incident, said the firm.
