M1 MOBILE CUSTOMERS HIT BY DISRUPTION
MANY M1 customers had trouble connecting to the Internet on the telco's mobile data network yesterday, after a scheduled network upgrade on Sunday night.
M1 said the problem started at 8am and was resolved by 2pm. Customers had intermittent access to 3G data services, and initial findings pointed to a software bug as the culprit. Voice calls, text messaging and 4G data services were not affected, said the telco.
MINDEF TO BUY TWO NEW SUBMARINES
THE Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Thyssenkrupp Marine System GmBH on Friday to acquire two new Type 218SG submarines. The subs are expected to be delivered from 2020.
The two new submarines and the navy's two Archer-class submarines will replace four ageing Challenger-class submarines. The Challenger- class submarines were built in the 1960s and will be retired from service progressively.
EARLY-MORNING FIRE AT LOYANG FACTORY
A FIRE broke out at Loyang Industrial Estate early yesterday morning and three people were taken to Changi General Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the factory fire at 3.55am.
