    Singapore update


    SBS Transit will extend its train operating hours and offer four special bus services during the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend from next Friday till Sunday.

    The special bus services - NS16, EW5, EW27 and EW1 - will serve residents in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay and Pasir Ris in the wee hours of the morning. They will complement the extended MRT hours, with a flat fare of $1.50 per ride.

    These are in addition to the Nite Owl bus services that operate on Friday and Saturday evenings. For more details, go to

    ROAD-SAFETY AWARD FOR FIRMS WITH HEAVY VEHICLES THE Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) will present the Singapore Road Safety Award in the last quarter of the year.

    The inaugural award is meant to recognise companies with heavy-vehicle fleets that have a management commitment and structured framework to promote road safety, and encourage safe and defensive driving habits among heavy-vehicle drivers, said SRSC.

    Companies with heavy vehicles that have an unladen weight of over 5,000kg are invited to submit their application for the award. Interested companies can download the application form from

    LIANHE WANBAO LAUNCHES SMARTPHONE AND TABLET APPS CHINESE daily newspaper Lianhe Wanbao (WB) yesterday launched its smartphone and tablet applications, along with its new website (, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations.
