New direct bus services to CBD from Jan

NINE City Direct bus services will be launched progressively from January to the second quarter of next year. They will ferry commuters to the Central Business District on weekday mornings and evenings.

The services will have limited stops and make use of expressways, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) yesterday.

LTA said: "Commuters using these services would have a comparable journey time to that of taking a connecting bus or LRT service and transferring to the MRT into the city."

The buses will service areas such as Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Bukit Batok, Eunos, Hougang, Jurong East, Sembawang, Sengkang and West Coast.

For a start, all nine services will make two one-way trips on weekday mornings from their respective housing estates to the CBD.

Similarly, two one-way trips will take commuters back home from the city in the evenings.

More trips may be added depending on the demand for the services, said LTA.

The bus services will operate during weekday peak periods, excluding public holidays. More details will be announced closer to the implementation date.

LTA also said that it called for a tender yesterday to invite private bus operators to submit their cost proposals to operate the services.

"The tendering process will allow the most cost-efficient operators to win the rights to operate the services," added LTA.
