NEA steps up dengue fight
The National Environment Agency (NEA) will recruit 300 officers to supplement its 850-strong operational workforce.
With the manpower boost, the agency will be able to inspect 100 per cent of premises in dengue clusters within a week, and step up preventive surveillance checks in non-cluster areas.
NEA officers will be equipped with a new insecticide aerosol spray, which has been jointly designed by the Environmental Health Institute and a commercial company. Officers will seek home owners' permission to spray the insecticide in dark and shady corners of residences where the Aedes mosquito rests.
The Ministry of Health and NEA will distribute 1.2 million vials of mosquito repellent to home owners, from July to August, beginning with those residing in cluster areas.
