Man faces rap for 12-year-old murder
A 59-YEAR-OLD man who was on the run for more than 10 years has been brought back to Singapore from Malaysia to face a charge of murder committed in 2001.
Eng Bak Siong was arrested in Skudai, Johor, by Royal Malaysian Police on July 7. He is accused of stabbing to death painter Peng Teck Hoe, 32, at a wet market in Toa Payoh in February 2001.
Eng, a Singaporean, is said to have been with five other men at around 4pm on Feb 21 when the painter was killed at Block 127 in Toa Payoh Lorong 1.
He has been remanded at Central Police Division for investigation. He will return to court on Thursday, and faces the death penalty if convicted.
