Inmate's death inquiry won't be reopened
A CORONER'S inquiry into the death of an inmate who died in prison three years ago will not be reopened, because no new matters have been raised, said the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC).
The AGC addressed a letter yesterday conveying the news to lawyer M. Ravi, who is representing the family of Dinesh Raman Channaiah, 21.
On Aug 15, the inmate's family sent a letter to the AGC requesting the reopening of the inquiry and for it to be completed within a week.
Dinesh died on Sept 27, 2010, from breathing difficulties in Changi Prison.
The inquiry was discontinued after senior prison officer Lim Kwo Yin, 36, pleaded guilty last month to causing his death by negligence.
He was fined $10,000.
