Hacker strikes, as words get twisted
THE unknown hacker who targeted the websites of singer Sun Ho and the PAP Community Foundation has struck again. This time, his targets were the Ang Mo Kio Town Council website and one of the constituency's Members of Parliament.
Known only as The Messiah, the hacker defaced the website on Monday with a message referring to MP Ang Hin Kee's comments, which were published in My Paper last Wednesday.
"I have been to various sites and seen how they take the initiative to secure their systems," the hacker wrote. "You have a brain and you have money. You had a choice. Don't blame external factors for this hack."
The website was still inaccessible last evening. Police are investigating.
In the My Paper story, on recent cases of commuter rage on public transport, Mr Ang said: "I've been to crowded places and seen how people accommodate one another. You have a choice. Don't blame external factors for your behaviour."
Some netizens and websites took it to mean that the "external factors" he was referring to were foreigners.
But Mr Ang said yesterday that the hacker's message and websites which circulated his quote had taken his words out of context, and that he had merely meant to say that there was no excuse for antisocial behaviour.
He added: "(They) took one sentence and interpreted it. It's most advisable to go back and read the original article."
